GALACTIC WAR
The Galactic War was the Galaxy's first known major war.  It was nearly a four year battle ranging from March 19, 1995 to May 2, 1999.  On December 26, 1994, the Terran Alliance entered the Bajoolan Wormhole and exited in the Gamma Quadrant which is completely controlled by the Dominion.  Resistance was met immediately when the Terran research vessel Scout was quickly ambushed by three Dominion ships.  The Terrans were warned to remain out of the Gamma Quadrant.  A month later, the Dominion came through the wormhole and requested a conference to discuss a treaty between the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants.  When a Terran diplomatic vessel entered the Gamma Quadrant on its way to the conference, it was attacked and destroyed by a Dominion fleet.  The Dominion used the destruction of the diplomatic vessel as an example of their power.  The Terrans cut off all communication with the Dominion which angered them even further.
On March 19, 1995, the Dominion launched a fleet of twenty-five ships and took control of Terran Space Station 9, located at the mouth of the wormhole on the Alpha Quadrant end.  Because the station was located in Bajoolan space, they too entered the fight against the Dominion.  The Rekagans, whose territory laid close to Bajoolan space, then entered as well.  The Carpatians entered the war due to proximity as well, and the Vurtulan and Ferlings remained neutral.  The Renotians sided with the Dominion forcing a two sided war for the Alpha Powers.  The Kathons and Kataan then joined the Alpha Powers from sheer hatred for and proximity to the Renotians.
The war dragged on for four years with the Dominion slowly gaining ground over the Alpha Powers (see list below).  Then, on May 2, 1999, the Dominion fleets destoryed the Starbase located on Earth and soliders walked the surface and took control of the major cities.  High-ranking officers commanding positions on Earth were assassinated in public, along with the Terran Alliance President Robert T. Cirrus.
